Sunday 16 December
Photo book marathon
Between 11am and 5pm Edie Peters (PhotoQ) and Lars Boering (FotografenFederatie) will take it in turns to interview the photographers: Viviane Sassen, Axel Hütte, Rob Hornstra, Anouk Kruithof, Peter Bialobrzeski, Olaf Otto Becker, Eddo Hartmann, David Galjaard, Simone Nieweg and Martin Luijendijk.
Besides the usual marathon of interviews and the photo book fair, this year’s event adds two new features:
A public photo book pitch: from 2pm, eight photographers with an idea for a book get a chance to pitch their plan to a panel of publishers and designers, including Dewi Lewis, Willem van Zoetendaal (Gallery van Zoetendaal) and Jim Casper (Lensculture). One of them will win a contribution towards the costs of their book.
A round-table expert discussion on the question of how, in the current plethora of photo books, high demands should be made of their quality. Lars Boering talks with Els Barents (Huis Marseille director), Francis Hodgson (consultant, Financial Times reviewer), Jacqueline Hassink (photographer) and Dewi Lewis (publisher). From 1pm till 2pm.
Huis Marseille will host a large book fair throughout the day, and after their interviews the photographers themselves will be available to sign copies of their books. Naturally, dozens of titles by other photographers will also be available.
Huis Marseille will stay open for the occasion until 7pm so there will be plenty of time to stick around, enjoy a drink at the bar, do some networking, and visit the museum’s newly-opened exhibition In and out of fashion by Viviane Sassen.
The Photo Book Marathon is a joint project organised by the FotografenFederatie, Huis Marseille and PhotoQ.
